Farina.

MATILDA showing farina on both flower & leaves.

The Farina or meal which can found on some auriculas leaves, stems & flowers is a white powder very similar to fine white flour. It gives that grey appearance on some auriculas leaves and creates the grey/white edge on some flowers. (Grey & White Edges)  The ring of white paste that can be found in the centre of some flowers, particularly the self’s, is a very hevy coating of farina. Farina can be washed off by rain or overhead watering, so it is advisable to keep those with farina in a theatre or some form of covering. I do keep some of my auriculas with heavy farina in an open border; the rain washes most of it off buy it does return after a short period. I have seen a magnified picture of farina it looked similar to a small lollipop in shape.
